'Tracking at Porthleven'

Tracking at Porthleven. In the days of sail there were occasions when the high Breageside cliff and surrounding harbour walls blocked the wind from the inner and outer basins – leaving fishing boats becalmed, unable to steer and exit the harbour. At such times fishermen would pull their boats along the pier in a process they called ‘tracking’ – to move the vessels out far enough to catch the wind.
